Shanghai Government Scholarship – Class A

In order to further develop the education of international students and attract more outstanding international students to study in Shanghai, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission has founded the “Shanghai Government Scholarship for International Students” (hereinafter referred to Scholarship). It is established to fund excellent international students to pursue bachelor’s degree or above at higher educational institutions (hereinafter referred to as HEIs) in Shanghai.

CATEGORIES OF APPLICANTS AND DURATION OF SCHOLARSHIP

Excellent international students who pursue master’s or doctoral degrees at HEIs in Shanghai.  

CRITERIA & ELIGIBILITY

a. Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens and be in good health. 
b. Applicants for doctoral degree programs must have a master’s degree and be under the age of 40. 
c. Applicants for master’s degree programs must have a bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35. 
d. Applicants should have good academic performance. 
e. Applicants should not be awardees of other Chinese government scholarships at the same time.

VALUES OF SCHOLARSHIP

a.Tuition 
The tuition fees might be different based on the HEIs and majors. Applicants should read the prospectus of the HEIs before they apply for the specific value. 
b. Living allowance 
Master student: 1,100 yuan per month 
Doctoral student: 1,400 yuan per month 
c. Basic accommodation 
d. Major disease and accident insurance

APPLICATION

Applicants shall apply directly to the HEIs in Shanghai once an academic year. Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements could apply continuously. 
Applications are accepted from January. For the specific application deadlines, applicants should consult the relevant HEIs.

APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

The applicants must fill in and submit the following documents truly, correctly and completely: 
a. Class B scholarship application form: The form should be duplicated in either Chinese or English. 
b. Highest diploma (notarized photocopy): Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English. 
c. Academic transcripts: Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English. 
d. A study or research plan in Chinese or in English (1,000 words or above) shall be submitted. 
e. Recommendation letters: Applicants should submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors in the HEIs they graduated from. 
f. Applicants for music and art are requested to submit the applicants’ own works according to the specific requirements from the HEIs. 
g. Please note that application documents will NOT be returned.

OTHER CLAUSES

HEIs and specialties:
All the HEIs and specialties that are qualified to accept international scholarship students certified by China Scholarship Council are entrusted to educate students under Shanghai Government Scholarship programs. Selection and notification:
The committee in relevant HEIs will assess all the applications. The results will be forwarded to the applicants in written form.

Excellent international students who pursue degrees at HEIs in Shanghai.

CRITERIA & ELIGIBILITY

a. Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens and be in good health. 
b. Applicants for doctoral degree programs must have a master’s degree and be under the age of 40. 
c. Applicants for master’s degree programs must have a bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35. 
d. Applicants for undergraduate program must have senior high school diploma and be under the age of 25. 
e. Applicants should have good academic performance. 
f. Applicants should not be awardees of other Chinese government scholarships at the same time.

VALUES OF SCHOLARSHIP

a. Tuition in the academic year

CATEGORIES OF APPLICANTS AND DURATION OF SCHOLARSHIP

E Excellent international students who are undertaking long-term study at HEIs in Shanghai.

CRITERIA & ELIGIBILITY

a. Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens and be in good health. 
b. Applicants should be studying at HEIs in Shanghai, and should not be awardees of other Chinese government scholarships at the same time. 
c. Applicants should comply with the laws and regulations in china, comply with the rules and disciplines in the host HEIs, and respect the teaching arrangements of the host HEIs. 
d. Applicants should have clear academic goals, work hard, and obtain good academic record. 
e. Applicants should be actively involved in various community activities and social practices in their host universities and in Shanghai area.

VALUES OF SCHOLARSHIP

The students under Class C scholarship will be awarded 4,000 to 8,000 Yuan (one-off award) for the academic year.
